Call for Photos: Celebrate 2 decades of the SCAR Antarctic Biodiversity Portal!

As we approach the 20th anniversary of the SCAR Antarctic Biodiversity Portal, we invite you to share your favorite photos from the past two decades to help us celebrate this milestone at the upcoming SCAR Open Science Conference in Oslo.

Dear SCAR Antarctic Biodiversity Portal Community,

This year marks a major milestone: the 20th Anniversary of the SCAR Antarctic Biodiversity Portal!

To celebrate two decades of collaboration, data sharing, and scientific discovery, we are putting together a special retrospective showcase to be presented at the upcoming SCAR Open Science Conference (OSC) in Oslo.

Whether you are a long-time contributor, a data user, or a recent addition to our network, you have been an integral part of this journey. To help us tell the story of the last 20 years, we are reaching out to ask for your favorite photographs.

We are looking for images from the past two decades that highlight:

  • Antarctic Wildlife: Your best shots of the species that drive our research and conservation efforts.
  • Researchers in the Field: Action shots of you and your colleagues collecting data, braving the elements, and conducting research.
  • Our Community: Photos from past meetings, workshops, or moments that capture the spirit of the SCAR Antarctic biodiversity data community.

How to Submit: Please share your high-resolution images with us by uploading them here.

Deadline: 31st July 2026

Please include: A brief caption or description for each image (e.g., location, year, species, or names of people pictured) and how you would like to be credited.

Your images will help us highlight the incredible work and vibrant community that make the Portal a success. We are deeply grateful for your continuous support and contributions over the years.

Thank you for helping us celebrate this milestone. We look forward to seeing your photos and hopefully celebrating with many of you in person in Oslo!

Best regards,

Dr Anton Van de Putte, The SCAR Antarctic Biodiversity Portal Team
